Current 6-speed gearboxes are about to be discontinued. New transmissions are prepared and there are rumors about 8-speed box to be standard. However, with a long time to go, we expect 2018 Ram 1500 with more than one transmission system. It could happen that 8-speed will be upgraded to gearbox with 10 gears. However, this depends on funds invested in development, since these works are pretty expensive. Nevertheless, transmission improvements brings mpg rate boost, which are one of the highlights of the vehicles, and every mile counts for pickup trucks.
